Description | Climate | Attractions | Recommendations

Danang is Vietnam's fourth largest city. Danang is primarily used by tourists as a transit stop. Danang holds the world's largest collection of Cham artefacts.

With a population of 350,000 Hué is not a particularly large city by present-day Vietnamese standards, but it is full of historical attractions. Even though it has suffered more than any other Vietnamese city during the Vietnam War it is the most beautiful city in Vietnam, Hué was the country's capital from 1802 to 1945, and has long been a major cultural, religious and educational centre. Hué has a long tradition of vegetarian food which is prepared at pagodas for the monks. Stalls in the markets serve vegetarian food on the 1st and the 15th days of the lunar month and there are several restaurants serving it all the time. Hué has many other places of religious and dynastic importance, and some good museums.

Dont's:
Shoes are to be removed when visiting homes or Buddhist Temples. Do not point the bottom of your feet towards other people or Buddhist statues. This is not universal so watch what others are doing.

Shorts are considered inappropriate attire and are allowed to be worn by children. In recent times in the main cities, it has been considered fashionable by women. However, it is still not widely accepted and has not yet filtered to the hinterlands. Again, check what people are wearing around you.

Leaving chopsticks sticking upright (vertically) in a rice bowl is not appreciated as this is a powerful death sign. In doing so this indicates incense sticks which are burned for the dead.

Climate

Vietnam's weather is tropical in the South; monsoonal in the North with hot, rainy season (mid-May to mid-September) and warm, dry season (mid-October to mid-March).
Hué is famous for its rainy weather. The rainy season last longer than in the Vietnamese average, from May to December, and even during the so-called dry season it regularly rains.
